This article details various glitch meta-map scripts for the Route 8 gate in Pokémon Red and Blue.

  • 0x01: Unknown/script may change back to 0x00
  • 0x02: Enables bypassing guard
  • 0x03: Screen may flash black and game may freeze
  • 0x04: Enables bypassing guard
  • 0x05: Screen may flash black and game may freeze
  • 0x06: Game may freeze without loading NPC sprites
  • 0x07: Controls other than Start to open the menu may lock up. If D367 (map permissions) is changed, player can Fly away (and likely Teleport/Escape Rope/Dig away), with no known side effects

  • 0x2B: Makes game have a glitchy pallette with green and a flickering bar appear at the top half of the screen

  • 0x44: Unable to walk, Causes a wild battle to start, probably based on Old Man data. After that, A2 effect happens.
