MissingNo. 0x7F in-game trade Select glitch

Please note that this glitch only exists in the Japanese versions of the game, or is otherwise a glitch from a Pokémon game which was only released in Japan.

A Pokémon Blue (Japanese) Select glitch can be used to receive MissingNo. 0x7F in an in-game trade; by trading another MissingNo. of the same type. This is useful for duplicating item 6's quantity after receiving the MissingNo. 0x7F, provided that the player already owns a MissingNo. 0x7F.

This glitch has only been confirmed in Japanese Blue, due to a freeze after the trade in Pokémon Red and Green.

Steps

(if needed, use the Select glitch workaround)

1. With the expanded inventory, press Select on item 61 and exit with B, B.
2. Talk to the NPC in Cinnabar Lab who requests a trade for Graveler for Kadabra.
3. Press A on a Pokémon which isn't the player's own 0x7F MissingNo.; to trick the game into thinking the trade is MissingNo. 0x7F for MissingNo. 0x7F.
4. Press A on the player's own MissingNo. 0x7F, to trade it for another with a glitched name.
