Box breaker glitch is a sub-glitch of the expanded inventory in the PC storage items, allowing the player to access boxes beyond box 12. It can be used for both accessing glitch Pokémon (including unterminated name Pokémon) and as a data copying tool.

There are many applications for this glitch, for example, it can be used as an alternative to connection copier for overwriting the player's name. The exact effects depend on factors such as which glitch box is used (this controls the destination pointer; which is usually supposed to be in SRAM) and the data that was in DA7F/DA80 and beyond prior to changing boxes. Using the glitch carelessly can freeze the game.

(Currently, at least), the box breaker glitch is far less useful in the Japanese versions, because the game seems to repeat the valid box source pointers after box 8; so the only known uses are to see a glitch box number, clear a box, or see previous box data mirrored in another box.

#Set up the expanded inventory in the PC. One of the glitches that can be used to do this is the dry underflow glitch.

Red/Blue name change
#Have a Pokémon in slot 9 with the name the player desires
#Adjust the quantity of PC item 51's quantity to x141factx13. or x13(D5A0)
#Go to change boxes and immediately press A to update the player's name

Pokémon creation
Another confirmed application of the box breaker glitch is to copy a portion of the current PC box into ~FA35 (may be exactly FA35 onward). As the Pokémon Day Care data is nearby, it is possible to manipulate a desired Pokémon species into the Day Care (specifically with the lower byte of stored Pokémon 1's Attack experience); all 256 IDs should be possible, but it is possible if the Pokémon knows a HM move or the experience division by zero glitch occurs the player may not be able to withdraw it from the Day Care. As expected, having some Pokédollars is required to withdraw the Pokémon as well.
