Crystal's Pentamark 00 will escape from any kind of Poké Ball, including a Master Ball. This is because the game internally remembers whether a Pokémon is caught by the "species of Pokémon caught" byte ($c64e): If a Pokémon is caught, then this byte should hold the species of that Pokémon, and otherwise it should hold 0x00. But for Pentamark 00, its species is 0x00, so even if the game determines that it is caught, later routines will think it isn't caught.

Evolutions
Pentamark has been observed to evolve into a Nidoran♂ at level 1, however the evolution does not always take place and may depend on internal memory.
All of the below have been tested on both English Crystal:

<!--
Test methodology: used ACE to recreate the Rare Candy effect without the lvl 100 check.
- NidoranM was tested using high/low friendship, under lvl 197. Evolved at any level at night with low friendship, didn't evolve with low friendship.
- Pidgeot was tested using the ACE code. Thanks to Pentamark's base stats, this evolution was triggerable without further edits.
- Shuckle was tested by manually adjusting attack to be lower than defense (to prevent the evolution into Pidgeot).

Interesting sidenote: GS:000 evolves into Pidgeot at level 196 ($C4) while C:000 evolves at level 197 ($C5). This is due to the relative position of screen tiles, which are $100 bytes forward in Crystal compared to Gold/Silver.

Evolution data for C:000 is sourced from $10:4907.

00 (????? 00) is a dual-type "Normal" (Type 0x80)/(VRAM:8350) (Type 0x50) glitch Pokémon in Pokémon Crystal, with an index number of hex:00 (dec:00).

Crystal's 00 will escape from any kind of Poké Ball, including a Master Ball. This is because the game internally remembers whether a Pokémon is caught by the "species of Pokémon caught" byte ($c64e): If a Pokémon is caught, then this byte should hold the species of that Pokémon, and otherwise it should hold 0x00. But for 00, its species is 0x00, so even if the game determines that it is caught, later routines will think it isn't caught.

Evolutions

All of the below have been tested on both English Crystal:

Pidgeot (12)

????? (00)

Level 205 →

Shuckle (D5)

Leveled up with ≥220 friendship at night →

Nidoran♂ (20)

Methods to obtain

 1. Stabilize a bad clone.
 2. Arbitrary code execution (e.g. through TM33 outside of the TM/HM pocket; glitch Pokédex mode 9).
 3. Trade ????? (00) from Pokémon Gold and Silver.

Notes

(00) has the ability to break out of a Master Ball. If captured by modifying the foe after throwing the ball, the game may freeze without showing the Pokédex entry.

When the player views its summary, it can be used for a map corruption effect known as Missingning, due to its second type.

This glitch Pokémon can be used to hide other Pokémon below it on the deposit and move PkMn w/o Mail menus, making it applicable for ????? party overloading.

Additional sprites

The front sprites of this glitch Pokémon may be affected based on the location it is encountered, whether an item was used, and the previous enemy battle sprite.
