'''Glitch Unown''' are invalid [[bp:Unown (Pokémon)|Unown]] in the Pokémon games.

==In Generation II==
'''Glitch Unowns''' are [[glitch_(verb)|glitched]] versions of the Unown. Some varients of these glitches look like versions of older glitches from Pokémon Red and Blue; whilst others such as the varient with an index number of 254 seem to categorise a list of small icons of all the Unown letters except Z (A-Y). Other '''Glitch Unowns''' are a combination of both of the possible appearences explained above.
In Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal, they can only be found in Unown Mode of the Pokédex through glitching or hacking.

They cannot exist as usable Pokémon without [[Game Genie]].
Many of the '''Glitch Unowns''' cannot be seen as they either crash the game, reset it into a [[Glitch Dimension]] or have strange effects on the game. One of the most unique examples of one of these glitches is [[Ilsty and ?]]. The game will switch to the evolution screen and presume a Pokémon named Ilsty is evolving into a Parasect.

Some variants of these [[glitch Pokémon]] have indecipherable sprites, kind of like glitch Pokémon from [[bp:Generation I|Generation I]]. Others such as the Gold/Silver:254 kind use a sprite that shows all Unown icons from A-Y in five columns, in a 'down, then next column' order. Other glitch Unown are a combination of both of the possible appearances explained above.
==Requirements==

Many of the glitch Unown cannot be seen as they either freeze the game, or reset it into a [[Glitch Dimension]].
#A category to see pictures of Unown on the Pokédex.
==Method==

Glitch Unown are different between Gold/Silver and Crystal.
#The GameShark code 01XX24DC can be entered to replace the first Unown seen, where XX is any Hexadecimal number between 1B and FF or 00 as values 01 to 1A correspond to normal Unowns.
#The player can then check the UnownDex to see one of the Glitch Unowns.

In Pokémon Crystal, at least the hex:FB glitch Unown has a sprite that looks like a corrupted version of another Pokémon's sprite (i.e. Noctowl for FB).

An example of a glitch effect caused by a glitch Unown is [[Ilsty and ?]]. The game will switch to the evolution screen and act like a Pokémon named "Ilsty" is evolving into a Forretress, and then have a Graveler named "?" evolve into Golem.

===Obtaining Glitch Unown===

Glitch Unown can be obtained in Gold/Silver with [[????? party overloading]] or through cheating.

====Withdraw over 6 Pokémon method====
image:UnownFF.png|Some of the '''Glitch Unowns''' look similar to both Unowns with a hexadecimal identifier of FD (253) and FC (252)

Note: This has only been confirmed in Gold/Silver.

First prepare at least Pokémon five boxed Pokémon, and a full party with the fifth party Pokémon having a Defense modulo 256 byte (DB13) of your choice. Both the party Pokémon and the boxed Pokémon should be nonvaluable.

*Using [[Coin Case glitch|Coin Case arbitrary code execution]] or the [[Celebi Trick]], obtain a [[?????]] (hex:00 or hex:FF only).
*Get six party Pokémon, then via "Move PkMn W/O Mail" withdraw five more Pokémon, placing them in the first position each time.

The value from DB13 will be written to the first Unown in the UnownDex, but the player's Pokédex seen and own addresses will be corrupted, causing the player to end up with different Pokédex in the Pokédex, so a player should not do this glitch if they have a complete Pokédex and don't want to lose it.

====Cheating method====
The GameShark code 01xx24DC (Pokémon Gold/Silver) or 01xxD9DE (Pokémon Crystal) will replace the first Unown in the Pokédex's Unown Mode.

==In Generation III==
While in one of the Tanoby Ruins chambers in FireRed/LeafGreen, the following codes will modify the sprite ID of the Unown (the same as the index number). The codes do not modify the Pokémon found outside of the ruins (though it's unknown as of now whether it can be combined with an encounter modifier to battle Unown outside of the ruins).

Invalid values are the [https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_locations_by_index_number_(Generation_III) non-Unown index numbers] (also given the name "Generation III hybrids") which may appear in a glitchy magenta color, as well as IDs 0x01B8+, which may appear as Unown with no sprite if they do not freeze the game.

Accessing Pokémon IDs 0-255:

0800F18C: 21XX - XX=ID

Accessing Pokémon IDs 256+:

0800F18C:31FF21XX - Encounter your index number (XX) + 255

==In Generation V==
Courtesy of SuprRooster, glitch Unown can be found with the following Action Replay code for Black 2, and will give the player 687 Master Balls and 100 Ultra Balls:

1. Give a Master Ball to any party/PC Pokémon

2. Press Select for 687 Master Balls.

3. Put the held Master Ball in the bag for 688 Master Balls; repeat step 1 the desired number of times for glitch Unown IDs 688-708.
