In the Pokémon games, glitch dialog or glitch dialogue refers to a combination of text, and/or sounds which may be displayed in a text box in such a way that they were never been intended to be seen or heard by the player. Glitch dialog is not to be confused with any type of legitimate error code such as "The save file is corrupted." because those error codes were implemented into the game by the developers to prevent a game freeze and often to prevent a string of glitch dialog. However, error codes such as 0 ERROR could be considered to be a form of glitch dialog because in bytes where the game manages what error message to display unprogrammed information or information which corresponds to another byte may exist.

Many Glitch Pokémon have glitch text in their name with the exception of those which use placeholder names such as "MISSINGNO." and ??????????.

Glitch dialog is given when a name or block of text uses characters with invalid identifiers. Identifiers, which are similar to character codes in computer text encoding, are used to identify various kinds of data. Each byte is given 255 identifiers. Often, many identifiers are never used and are filled with data which corresponds to other bytes but are represented as glitch dialog.
