The glitch allows the player to encounter either Farfetch'd (hex:40), Golduck (hex:80) or glitch Pokémon 0xC0 by having the cursor on the Pokémon in the party. This then alters D036 (D05E in other versions).
If D036/D05E is already at a specific value (e.g. from a previous instant encounter or Trainer battle), then this glitch can be used to add 0x40 to it. If in battle, the battle can be reloaded with the new encounter from a [[:category:battle partial escape glitch items|battle partial escape glitch item]].
