The Poison step avoidance glitch occurs in RB. Normally a poisoned Pokémon loses one HP due to poison every four steps. However, saving and resetting allows the player to reset the step counter back to the next four steps.

Additionally, use of the glitch item "il" (hex:6D) will set the number of steps remaining until poison damage to two steps.
Within the Generation I Pokémon games, it is possible for the player to essentially walk around with a party of no active Pokémon if he or she deposits all Pokémon into the PC except those which are fainted.

If the player then walks three extra steps hewith ora sheparty of no active Pokémon, this will recieveresult in a black out. However, however the amount of steps required for thisa toblack happenout can be reset if the player thenby savessaving the game and performs a soft/hard reset. In this way, by saving the game oftenly the player will eventually be able to enter a trainer battle. This is currently the only known method of activating the phenomenum Wild appeared! for when the player enters a battle with no Pokémon in Generation I without the use of a game-altering device.

This method allows the player to enter a Trainer battle or a wild Pokémon battle without any active Pokémon, but this will only result in a black out after the battle begins.

In Pokémon Yellow, this glitch was patched, as the game checks for fainted Pokémon every step instead of four.
