What if you could essentially combine two Pokémon into one, with the species of one Pokémon and the characteristics of another? The Q Glitch - the newest big discovery in the field of RBY Pokémon glitches - allows you to do all that and more. {{Bulbapedia}} The '''Pokémon merge glitch''', previously/also known as the '''Q Trick''' is a [[glitch]] in {{RBY}} as well as {{GSC}}, discovered by ACE91. Using a Pokémon which has an index number of 255 (i.e. [[GlitchDex/RB:255\|'M (FF)]] in {{RB}}, [[GlitchDex/Y:255\|Q]] in {{Y}}, [[?????]] (FF) in {{GSC}}) it is possible for the player to create a Pokémon known as an [[unstable hybrid Pokémon]], which has the attributes of two Pokémon. To perform the Q Glitch, you first need to have a certain Glitch Pokémon - Q on Yellow Version, Charizard 'M on Red/Blue Version. For example purposes, we have a Magikarp and a Rhyhorn. Their stats can be seen below: This glitch allows the player to give nearly any attack to any Pokémon without the use of a [[cheating device]]. The Pokémon merge glitch can also make a Pokémon have the stats and type of another Pokémon. ~~[[Image:QTrick1.gif]]<br>~~ ~~[[Image:QTrick2.gif]]~~ ==In [[bp:Generation I\|Generation I]]== Let's say you wanted to give the move Horn Attack to a Magikarp. First, you would select an empty box on the PC, and deposit a Pokémon in the box. (Any Pokémon will do; I'll use Rattata for this example.) Next, deposit your Q or Charizard 'M in the box. After that deposit the Pokémon that you want to gain the new moves, in this case Magikarp. Finally, deposit the Pokémon with the moves you want the other Pokémon to have, in this case Rhyhorn. After depositing these Pokémon, the contents of your box would be this: ===Obtaining 'M (FF) or Q=== For the Pokémon merge glitch, the player should first obtain either an [[GlitchDex/RB:255\|'M (FF)]] in {{RB}} or [[GlitchDex/Y:255\|Q]] in {{Y}}. 'M (FF) can be obtained in Pokémon Red and Blue with [[- (Generation I move)#Super Glitch effect\|CoolTrainer♀ corruption]] or [[LOL glitch]] by having [[:File:'M FF Route 1 CoolTrainer spot.png\|a specific spot]] in a Route 1 [[Glitch City]] from the [[Safari Zone exit glitch]] as the last place the player opened the Pokémon menu. It can also be obtained by trading a Q over from Pokémon Yellow. * Rattata * Q/Charizard 'M * Magikarp * Rhyhorn * CANCEL ~~However, because a Q or Charizard 'M causes all Pokémon below it to become invisible, the box would look like this:~~ Q can be obtained in Pokémon Yellow either by evolving a [[GlitchDex/Y:192\|4 4 Hy]] (which can be obtained with the [[Ditto Trick]] using a Special stat of 192), or trading an 'M (FF) from Pokémon Red and Blue. * Rattata * CANCEL * <br> * <br> * <br> Both 'M (FF) and Q may also be obtained with the [[Pokémon Bank hex:FF glitch Pokémon glitch]], [[international fossil conversion glitch]] or [[arbitrary code execution]]. Keep in mind that the CANCEL button is really your Q/Charizard 'M, and the three blank spaces are Magikarp, Rhyhorn, and the CANCEL button, respectively. Now, withdraw the Rattata (or any other Pokémon above Q/Charizard 'M.) You have just combined the two Pokémon. The contents of the box should now be this: ===Method=== * Q/Charizard 'M (Q/Charizard 'M) 1. Deposit any Pokémon into an empty box.<br> * Q/Charizard 'M (Magikarp) 2. Deposit 'M (FF) or Q.<br> * Magikarp (Rhyhorn) 2. Deposit a Pokémon below the 'M (FF) or Q (e.g. Charmander). This will be the 'donor' Pokémon for the unstable hybrid Pokémon.<br> * CANCEL 3. Deposit a Pokémon below the third Pokémon (e.g. Staryu). This will be the 'recipient' Pokémon for the unstable hybrid Pokémon.<br> 4. Withdraw the first Pokémon in the box.<br> In this example, the Pokémon merge glitch will have created both a 'M (FF) or Q/Charmander hybrid and Charmander/Staryu hybrid. The names in parentheses show which Pokémon each of these really is. Your Rhyhorn has now become a Magikarp, and your Magikarp has now become a Q or Charizard 'M. However, these Pokémon have retained their own stats. Their stats should look like this: The "Charmander" will have Staryu's name, moves and palette but will be able to learn moves a Charmander would be able to by TM/HM. ~~[[Image:QTrick3.gif]]<br>~~ ~~[[Image:QTrick4.gif]]~~ It can be stabilized into a Charmeleon through evolution, or back into a Staryu either by depositing it into the Pokémon Day Care and out again or taking the Pokémon into {{Stadium2}}. It cannot be traded into {{GSC}} until it is stabilized. What's this? You have a Magikarp with the stats and name of a Rhyhorn! What kind of a freakish hybrid is this? Actually, this is what glitchologists call an unstable hybrid. It is unstable because it its identification data has been mixed up, and it is no longer a normal Pokémon. Hybrid Glitches could also be considered unstable hybrids because they have some of the data of another Pokémon. This unstable hybrid wasn't exactly what you were wanting, right? You wanted a normal Magikarp with Horn Attack, right? Well, there is one way to stabilize these hybrids - evolution. When this Magikarp becomes a Gyarados, its stats will become those of a normal Gyarados, but it will retain its altered moves. This Gyarados is now a perfectly stable, normal Pokémon. Stabilizing hybrids by evolving them is important if you want to trade them to Gold/Silver/Crystal Version because unstable hybrids will be blocked by GSC's error trap just as if you had tried to trade a Glitch Pokémon. {{youtube\|ycsGJrGxLQA\|glitchedgamer}} If you want to do this glitch for yourself, just replace the Magikarp and Rhyhorn in this demonstration with any other two Pokémon(If the pokemon that has the moves you want on a diferent pokemon was a shiny pokemon in G/S/C, the resulting pokemon, once stabilzed, wil be shiny if traded to G/S/C!). The possibilities with this glitch are virtually endless, so just play around with this glitch and get a feel for how it works. ==~~For~~=Obtaining Shiny Pokémon ~~Unable to Evolve~~== = Since the hybrid's DVs will be those of the recipient Pokémon, it is possible for the player to create a new Shiny Pokémon. It can be stabilized by evolving the end result unstable hybrid. For example, if the Staryu mentioned in the section above was originally Shiny, the Charmander/Staryu hybrid may be evolved to become a stable Shiny Charmeleon. ==In [[bp:Generation II\|Generation II]]== What if you wanted to get a Pokémon that doesn't evolve to learn a move it can't learn normally? Well first off for this method you'd need a copy of Pokémon Stadium 2 US. (Stadium 1 will not have permanent changes to your hybrid.)The reason why is because of its error trap that permanently changes pokemon that are abnormal. (I.E. Glitch Pokémon become Dittos permanently.)With the case of unstable hybrids, it changes them back to whatever Pokémon they once were before you used the Q Trick. {{PRAMA\|merge-glitch}} ===Obtaining ????? (FF)=== The Pokémon merge glitch is possible with a [[?????]] (FF). A ????? (FF) may be created by obtaining a ????? (00) from the [[bad clone glitch]] and converting it into ????? (FF) with [[????? party overloading]]. The player should have a party of six Pokémon; and then bring the ????? (FF) to the top of the party. They should then use 'move PkMn without Mail' to bring another Pokémon to the top. This will convert the ????? (00) into a ????? (FF). This might seem like a bad thing but its possible to take advantage of this by tricking Pokémon Stadium 2 into doing what you want it to. This method will not allow your Pokémon to have the other Pokémon's stats but it will allow it to have attacks it wouldn't learn otherwise still. ===Steps=== To do this method, simply do the Q Trick as normal on your GB game. However this time turn the Pokémon into the '''opposite''' of what you want it to be. For example, say I wanted a flying Mewtwo. I'd take a Pidgey and turn the Mewtwo into it as opposed to turning the Pidgey into the Mewtwo. Now teach the Hybrid Pidgey created Fly and possibly Sky Attack. The player should set up a party like so: Pokémon 1 Now upload it onto Pokémon Stadium 2's lab via transfer pak and you'll notice that the Hybrid Pidgey will be a Mewtwo. Looking at the Mewtwo's stats will show that it seems to be just a normal Mewtwo. However while its stats will be normal, its attack roster will not. You'll notice that the Sky Attack and Fly you taught to the hybrid Pidgey will still be there! Also If you save your game after moving around the Mewtwo in the storage system on Stadium 2 it will permanently become a Flying Mewtwo! Pokémon 2 ????? (FF) Caterpie Shiny Gyarados Growlithe Upon depositing Pokémon 1 or 2, the Pokémon below ????? (FF) will hybridize. Caterpie will become a ????? (FF)/Caterpie hybrid, Shiny Gyarados will become a Caterpie/Gyarados hybrid (which can be evolved to become a stable Shiny Metapod) and Growlithe will become a Shiny Gyarados/Growlithe hybrid (which can be taught water moves and taken into the Day Care and out again to revert back into a stable Growlithe). This error trap that Pokémon Stadium 2 has will also turn '''any''' Pokémon turned into a Charizard 'M/Q's by the Q trick back to the way they were. Any moves you taught them as a Q/Charizard 'M will be kept.
