The Professor Oak Trainer Glitch is a glitch encounter in Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow, caused by a bug in the game's engine where removing the wall barriers on Sea Route 20 causes the trainers to turn into Professor Oak after talking to them. It was discovered by Crystal_ in 2020, documented by SailorMoonFan01 and analyzed by ChickasaurusGL in 2020.

Procedure

  1. Modify RAM address (e.g. from ACE/GameShark) to change C8CA to 0x43, or modify the map with a map editor/hex editor on the ROM.
  2. Modifying the map with a map editor/hex editor on the ROM is an alternative method as well.
  3. Enable Brock Through Walls in Pewter City, fly to Cinnabar Island and Walk through the edge of the area where there is no water and touch the wall barrier that connects.
  4. Once that is done go back to the signpost that reads Seafoam Islands then turn around and talk to the trainer with no encounters.
  5. Once talking to the trainer it will turn into Professor Oak.
