Bulbapedia also has an article about Protect rate table bypassing. |
Protect rate table bypassing oversight occurs in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. The moves Protect, Detect and Endure were intentionally programmed to have specific success rates for turns 1-4; however, due to extrapolation from the success table, the odds of Protect succeeding for turns 5 and up appear to be random, and not necessarily being less or more likely to succeed each additional turn.
The success rates are documented both on Bulbapedia, and a Japanese website (unfortunately malformed as the original page is no longer available).
