In battle, by swapping moves beyond slot 4, the player can give the user a higher maximum HP, while at the same time having its cap on the party menu. This then can provide the "low HP" sound effects for that Pokémon, if the difference is significantly high.

Please note that this glitch only exists in the Japanese versions of the game, or is otherwise a glitch
from a Pokémon game which was only released in Japan.
More research is needed for this article.

Select glitch red-bar is an application of Select glitches in Pokémon Red and Green (not yet confirmed in Japanese Blue).
