About the name...it sounds cool (and reminds me of when we threw names like "Super Glitch" on things), but this doesn't just apply to water tiles as far as I recall. As for it being in the Misc:RB template (which we should give a re-evaluation and place consistently), it doesn't describe what's happening all that well, and so might not be found by those wondering why it happens (in contrast with something like the Escape sprite handling glitch. What do you guys think? Could it even be something as deadpan as "Out of bounds background tiles"? Sherkel (talk) 21:56, 8 November 2019 (-06)

:Your concern is definitely valid, although I don't think "Out of bounds background tiles" would be actually more clear, because normal players may not identify those tiles as "out of bounds", and the name ultimately doesn't convey what is happening. "Map border inconsistency" might be a better "technical name".

:I also think a catchy and informative name like "Coastal Flooding" (although maybe not with a capital F?) should definitely be preserved, and since the glitch only happens naturally at a few places in the game map, the other case being between tree and grass tiles (although I may not have extensively checked all pairs of connected maps), "Coastal Flooding and Deforestation" should cover all natural cases of this glitch. Maybe the template can link to this page as "Map border inconsistency (Coastal Flooding and Deforestation)", or just "Map border inconsistency (Coastal Flooding)" since that name is somewhat established.

::Looking at it that way, I want to keep it now. Capitalized, as Super Glitch is. There isn't always need for a more descriptive title if mostly no one will know what it means before viewing the page anyway. The template can have the longer version (which should be made similar to what Ryccardo did with the Major glitches one). About the name...it sounds cool (and reminds me of when we threw names like "Super Glitch" on things), but this doesn't just apply to water tiles as far as I recall. As for it being in the Misc:RB template (which we should give a re-evaluation and place consistently), it doesn't describe what's happening all that well, and so might not be found by those wondering why it happens (in contrast with something like the Escape sprite handling glitch). What do you guys think? Could it even be something as deadpan as "Out of bounds background tiles"? Sherkel (talk) 21:56, 8 November 2019 (-06)

Your concern is definitely valid, although I don't think "Out of bounds background tiles" would be actually more clear, because normal players may not identify those tiles as "out of bounds", and the name ultimately doesn't convey what is happening. "Map border inconsistency" might be a better "technical name".
I also think a catchy and informative name like "Coastal Flooding" (although maybe not with a capital F?) should definitely be preserved, and since the glitch only happens naturally at a few places in the game map, the other case being between tree and grass tiles (although I may not have extensively checked all pairs of connected maps), "Coastal Flooding and Deforestation" should cover all natural cases of this glitch. Maybe the template can link to this page as "Map border inconsistency (Coastal Flooding and Deforestation)", or just "Map border inconsistency (Coastal Flooding)" since that name is somewhat established.
Incidentally, it seems that Yellow actually fixed a single instance of this glitch by changing Cerulean City's background tile (R/B, Yellow). Cycling Road was not fixed, though... Bbbbbbbbba (talk) 01:40, 10 November 2019 (-06)
Looking at it that way, I want to keep it now. Capitalized, as Super Glitch is. There isn't always need for a more descriptive title if mostly no one will know what it means before viewing the page anyway. (I would say the template could have the longer version, but it isn't suited for that and looks better for its purpose as-is than the Major glitches one used to be.)
