An unused encounter system exists in {{Yellow}} with ID 03. It is accessible with [[Cheating device|GameShark]] code 010359D0 or by exploiting a complex glitch known as [[Text pointer manipulation mart buffer overflow glitch]].

When this battle system is in actiontriggered, the[[bp:Red player(game)|Red's]] 'backsprite'back sprite will appear but no Pokémon will be sent out. The FIGHT option will yield the message "Hurry, get away!" (Japanese: 「はやく にげるのじゃ!」, roughly ''run away quickly!'').

If an itemITEM is usedchosen, the game will automatically selectpick and use the first oneitem similaron tothe howBag Professorin Oaka attemptssimilar fashion to catchthe a[[bp:Professor PikachuOak|Professor Oak]] tutorial at the beginning of thea journey where he catches [[bp:Red's Pikachu (game)|Red's Pikachu]]. Pokémon can be switched out using {{PK}}{{MN}} in this battle system, mode howeverbut the wild Pokémon will not make a move. If the player selects runRUN, they will always successfully [[bp:Escape|escape]], fromeven thein battleTrainer battles.
The player cannot fight the opponent because the game will display the message "Hurry, get away!" (Japanese: はやく にげるのじゃ!, roughly: ''run away quickly!'').

It is possible that this battle mode was meant to replace "[[Wild appeared!]]" while encountering a Pokémon without having any.
If an item is used the game will automatically select the first one similar to how Professor Oak attempts to catch a Pikachu at the beginning of the game. Pokémon can be switched out in this battle system, however the wild Pokémon will not make a move. If the player selects run they will successfully escape from the battle.
It is possible that this battle system is related to 04; the Professor Oak battle mode, and that the player was meant to capture their Pikachu themselves, but there is no solid evidence about the origin of this battle system.
