Box breaker glitch is a sub-glitch of the expanded inventory in the PC storage items, allowing the player to access boxes beyond box 12. It can be used for both accessing glitch Pokémon (including unterminated name Pokémon) and as a data copying tool.
There are many applications for this glitch, for example, it can be used as an alternative to connection copier for overwriting the player's name. The exact effects depend on factors such as which glitch box is used (this controls the destination pointer; which is usually supposed to be in SRAM) and the data that was in DA7F/DA80 and beyond prior to changing boxes. Using the glitch carelessly can freeze the game.
Steps
- Set up the expanded inventory in the PC. One of the glitches that can be used to do this is the dry underflow glitch.
- Find PC item 51's quantity and change the quantity to either the desired glitch box (warning: this will clear all other box data), or the desired box +128 (to keep the other box data).
- Go to change boxes and immediately press A to apply the corruption.
Examples
Red/Blue name change
- Have a Pokémon in slot 9 with the name the player desires
- Adjust the quantity of PC item 51 to x141[citation needed] or x13
- Go to change boxes and immediately press A to update the player's name
