Line 1:
The soft reset problem refers to a curiosity in the Game Boy Pokémon games in which momentarily the entire screen is not wiped white during soft resets at certain points in the game; such as while playing the Pikachu's Beach minigame in Yellow.

In the first generation of the handheld Pokémon games, normally when the player activates a soft-reset via the button combination Start+Select+A+B, the game should fade to a white screen before returning the player to the title screen.

Due to technical limitations however, the game developers decided to simply change the primary palette to one which would render each elements as an invisible white object, before the the palette is immediately changed back to its default and at around the same time the game is reset.

There is a slight bug in the game engine for any of these games for when the player activates a soft-reset when an object is in animation, or when an object is moving however. The game updates the object just after changing the primary palette, and in order to do this the game has to change the primary primary palette once more to make the object visible again. When doing this, the game will manage a palette where the unaffected objects are invisible, but the objects which were going to change their appearence are visible again.
