Map FF00, seen immediately after walking out of bounds in Elm's Lab

Map FF00 is a glitch map in English Pokémon Gold and Silver. Its map bank is FF and its map ID is 00. It is the most common non-crashing out of bounds Glitch City in Pokémon Gold and Silver.

According to the Pokégear, Map FF00 is in Route 22.

Accessing map FF00

Map FF00 can be accessed by loading a save file, then walking out of bounds before entering any other map. This can be done with the following walk through walls Gameshark codes: 0100A3CE, 0100A4CE, 0100A5CE, 0100A6CE. Walking through walls is also necessary to explore this map.

Attempting to load map FF00 by editing memory addresses DA00 and DA01, then going up and down the stairs in the Cherrygrove Pokémon Center, as is used to access many other glitch maps, will freeze the game.

Properties

Map FF00 is a relatively large map that plays the Route 26 music. Opening and closing any full-screen menu will briefly change the player's sprite, and reveal that the map uses a route tileset.

Regardless of where the player enters this map, they will start at coordinates (0, 3).

Rarely, entering map FF00 may cause the player's name, play time, and options to become corrupted.

It has a north connection to map 7900, a south connection to map 2706, a west connection to map 02F5 (the building that connects Fuchsia City to Route 15), and an east connection to map 4700. Most of the time, these maps will freeze the game or cause a Glitch Dimension. The west connection can sometimes be entered safely, depending on the contents of VRAM - one method is to save and reload at the entrance to Elm's Lab, walk one step west then south out of bounds, open the Pokémon menu, then walk one step east, then west until the palette changes. Even though it leads to a valid map, you will start far south of the actual map, the tiles and collision will remain corrupted, and it is not possible to exit except by going out of bounds to the east (back to FF00).

Neither Fly, Teleport, Dig, nor Escape Ropes can be used to escape from this map.

Some effects of map 0xFF00 depend on where the player enters the map. Entering map FF00 from the player's room may freeze the game, or open a glitched Pokémon menu that freezes the game when interacted with. Locations where entering map 0xFF00 is known to freeze the game include Slowpoke Well, Mt. Silver, and the Trainer House.
