== Cause ==
Stepping out of bounds causes the game to load a glitch map from bank 0xFF, with the map number of the most recently loaded map that had a connection in the same direction. This is because unused map connections are marked by setting the bank number to 0xFF, similar to how [[Map 0xFF]] is loaded when walking out of bounds in Generation I, but the map number is unchanged. The most common non-crashing map to be loaded this way is map 0xFF00, as this is the value that unused map connections are initialized to when loading a save.<ref>[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VZzcQ_fGUU Pokémon Crystal - Examining the "Out of Bounds" Glitches] from TheZZAZZGlitch</ref>
