I think this happens just because the devs forgot to fade out the display before changing the sprite set, and Yellow fixed this glitch by adding this instruction. GB and GBC only supports 256 different tiles in the VRAM at any time, which is barely enough, but the tilesets used by different in-game screens would need to overwrite each other (e.g. see Escape sprite handling glitch). Therefore the devs always had to be careful when changing sprite sets, or glitchy effects like this would happen. --Bbbbbbbbba (talk) 19:12, 2 January 2021 (EST)
