(view, talk, edit)

This will allow you to explore Hoenn with a friend (it should work with up to four people, although it hasn't been tested yet).

How to Perform for Ruby and Sapphire

It can be performed with one or two cheat devices (Action Replay, Gameshark, etc.).

1. Make sure you have the Walk Through Walls code selected before you start the game up.

2. Go above the woman at the record mixing room counter.

3. Save the game. If only one cheat device is owned, save the game and pass the cheat device to the next person, and go back to one until all people are above the woman at the counter.

4. Start up the link like normal.

5. Instead of going to the room, you should walk one square above it and go to Petalburg City. Now, you can explore to your heart's desires.

How to Perform for Emerald

This method is much simpler than for Ruby and Sapphire. However, you need enough cheat devices for each person with Emerald.

1. Make sure any warp code is selected. (If you're playing with someone who owns Ruby or Sapphire, you should use the one for Petalburg City, but it's not required.)

2. Start up the link like normal. When walking through the door, if the code requires you to hold a button, hold down the button necessary.

3. You should appear in the warp location rather than the record room.

Issues

Unfortunately, it isn't perfect. When entering a new location, the background will get messed up (the collisions will be different than the background suggests). This can be fixed by simply checking the Pokenav, although the collisions will still be slightly off. Battles can be fought, but you must speak to the trainer, and it normally ends with the game freezing. HM's can't be used (this isn't too bad, as you can walk on water), you can't enter doors, the game can't be saved, items can't be used, and the worst of all: the games aren't synched. The game isn't server based. Try to imagine the GBAs like remote controls; pushing a button sends a command to the other game, telling it to move the character in the direction. Even worse, the NPCs randomly walk around, and they often don't walk the same for the different games. This can cause some games to have a player walking into someone, while in another they are farther away. This can be fixed by working hard to move the players so they are the same on all the screens, but it won't be perfect. You may want to make sure all the players have progressed the same amount into the game (i.e. in Petalburg City, a man will show you the gym and make you follow him, and if someone still has that person there, other players will freeze at the barrier for that person's game, and they will stay until the game is shut off).
